## Smithsonian The Thundershower Shirt (Large)

Smithsonian The Thundershower Shirt (Large)

Henry Lyman Saÿen was an early 20th-century American painter. Influenced by modern art patrons and Picasso supporters Leo and Gertrude Stein, he began study under Henri Matisse in 1907. Noted particularly for his landscapes, his work grew more modern toward the end of his life. In his final work, The Thundershower c.1917-1918, in the collections of our Smithsonian American Art Museum, Saÿen blends European modernism and Native American decorative patterns.
